Thermal Flowmeter for Gases and Liquids "Cyclone-2M"

Flowmeter "Cyclone-2M" is intended for calculation of mass and volumetric flow rates of gases and liquids in wells and transmission pipelines. It is capable of taking simultaneous measurements of flows across up to sixteen pipes.
Flowmeter "Cyclone-2M" can be mounted on pipelines with diameters from 100 to 1200 mm. Mass velocity may vary in pipelines from 0.8 to 300 kg/(m2 s).
The basic measured value is mass flow.
The volumetric flows may then be calculated by entering (via keyboard) gas/liquid density values under normal conditions.
The flowmeter also provides:

- gas/liquid temperature;
- inside pipe pressure;
- current hour/day volume and current time.
All this information are displayed on internal display, can be printed directly and transfered to computer via USB, RS-232 or RS-485 interfaces.

Equipment kit
Flowmeters "Cyclone-2M" consist of the main unit (BI-2M) and one to sixteen transducers (D2).
The main unit BI-2M includes the following basic functional units:
- single-chip microcomputer;
- analogue-digital converter;
- crystal-liquid graphic display;
- keys and multiplexers for switching signals;
- power supplies for all units;
- galvanic isolating device;
- current and voltage limit circuits.
BI-2M devices are produced as desktop, wall-mounted and as a portable units and they are explosion proof both indoors and outdoors.
Distance between main unit and transdusers can be up to 200 meters. D2 devices are connected to the pipelines. The measuring zone needs to be chosen on a direct section of pipe, whose length before the measuring section should be as long as possible.

Advantages

- multichanneling (up to 16 measuring units!);
- a wide range of measured flow rates;
- measurements are carried out without reduction of the pipeline capacity;
- absence of throttling devices and mobile elements in flow;
- convenience and rapid installation and dismantling;
- competitive price.

Physical principles
Flow rate calculations by "Cyclone-2M" are based on the quantity of heat carried away from a special transducer submerged into the flow as a thermal probe.
Transducer design provides thermal probe placement into the flow of gas within a specially arranged measurement zone - flow divider - instead of being submerged into the main flow.
This allows to reduce energy consumption involved in the measurement process.
High energy consumption values have been the basic reason for only occasional practical use of thermal flowmeters, despite their excellent accuracy characteristics.
Therefore, the reducing process (i.e. the process of transition of gas or liquid from the main flow to the measurement flow) performs, at the same time, the filtering function, i.e. no solid particles, such as sand, may penetrate in the measurement flow by virtue of a delayed action.

Applications
"Cyclone-2M" flowmeters are mainly used in the following areas:

- oil and gas production and transportation;
- chemical industry;
- undergoung gas storage;
- metallurgical and sintering plants;
- environmental monitoring.

In particular, "Cyclone-2M" has been chosen for every underground gas storage being built now in the Ukraine.
